Skin Conditions

## Skin Conditions in Darker Skin — Unique Challenges

Not all dermatologists are trained to diagnose skin conditions in darker skin tones. Symptoms can appear differently.

## Common Conditions in the Community

Vitiligo: light patches from pigment loss — autoimmune, not contagious. Psoriasis: in darker skin appears purple/grey, not just red. Keloid acne (nape/neck): common in men of African origin. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: dark spots after any skin inflammation.

## What Helps

SPF 30+ sunscreen — important even for dark skin. Moisturise twice daily. Avoid skin-lightening products (often contain mercury — dangerous).
