What is the National Insurance Institute?

The National Insurance Institute (Hebrew: Bituach Leumi, BTL) is the government body responsible for Israel's social-security system. It collects insurance contributions and pays allowances that form a safety net for residents.

Which allowances does it pay?

  • Old-age pension — after retirement age
  • Disability allowance — for people with reduced earning capacity
  • Child allowance — for every family with children
  • Long-Term Care Benefit — for dependent elderly
  • Unemployment, maternity, income support and more
