Subsidized trades
- Electrician — 6-9 month course, Ministry of Labor license
- Plumber — 4-6 months, license
- Welder — 3-6 months
- Mechanic — 4-8 months
What it costs
Training is subsidised through the Ministry of Labour's voucher scheme. Ethiopian-origin applicants — born in Ethiopia, or with one parent born there — are in Group A, which carries the higher subsidy rate:
- 90% for high-demand trades
- 80% for medium-demand trades
capped at roughly ₪6,000-12,000 per course, and always with a co-payment — there is no 100% track, as this page previously stated.
There is also a training stipend (BOOST), run by the Ministry of Labour with JDC, for up to 6 months, conditional on a further criterion beyond group membership. Its amount is not published by a primary source, so we do not state one here.
After the course
Construction and maintenance have steady demand for qualified tradespeople. (The completion and self-employment rates previously shown here — 90% and 60% — are not published by the Ministry of Labour and no source could be found, so they were removed.)
