Youth Mentorship — PERACH, ENP, Fidel in Lod
Academic/social mentorship programs for Ethiopian-Israeli youth. PERACH (university student → school pupil), ENP (32 cities, school-based), Fidel (families + mediators).
About Lod
Lod has a long-established Israeli-Ethiopian community in neighbourhoods where the community proportion is significant. In recent years the city has drawn attention due to urban-renewal plans and demographic shifts that directly affect the local real-estate market and housing options for the community.
Recommended programs
- PERACH: A student receives a stipend (~₪5,000/year) in exchange for 4 weekly hours of mentoring a younger pupil. For ages 7-18.
- ENP — Ethiopian National Project: School-based programs (SPACE) across 32 cities. After-school tutoring, matriculation prep, community mentors.
- Fidel: Family-focused — school mediators, youth clubs, parent guidance.
Who is eligible?
- PERACH: Any community pupil whose teacher recommends targeted tutoring — request via school counselor
- ENP: Through the school itself — if it's in the 32-city network. Ask the teacher.
- Fidel: Via a community youth club or school registrar.
How to start
- Talk to the teacher / school counselor first
- ENP: enp.org.il/he → "About" → branches
- PERACH: via the dean-of-students office at the local university (if a family member can be the mentor)
- Fidel: fidel.org.il → "Contact"
Tip: combining 2 programs (ENP + PERACH for example) is common and effective.
