Equal Rights Law for Persons with Disabilities

Law 5758-1998 prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment and requires employers to make reasonable accommodations.

What are "Reasonable Accommodations"?

Physical adaptations (chair, desk height, accessibility), flexible hours for medical appointments, special equipment (screen reader, hearing aids), proximity to toilets, elevator access.

An employer may not reject a qualified candidate due to disability if reasonable accommodation is possible.

Mobility Allowance (NII)

People with movement disabilities are entitled to a monthly mobility allowance + loan for vehicle purchase.

Tax Benefits

  • 2 additional income-tax credit points for recognised disability
  • Disability benefit income is tax-exempt
  • Employers receive 50% reimbursement on NII costs

Complaints

If dismissed due to disability — file a complaint with the Equal Rights Commissioner within 90 days.
