Scholarship exclusively for students of Ethiopian origin — up to ₪20,000 per year for any undergraduate field.

What is the Merom Scholarship?

The Merom Scholarship is a merit-and-need award designed exclusively for students of Ethiopian origin studying for an undergraduate degree at a recognised Israeli academic institution. It is renewed annually subject to maintaining a minimum grade average.

Who is eligible?

  • Student of Ethiopian origin (parent born in Ethiopia, or direct aliyah)
  • Studying for an undergraduate degree at an accredited university, college, or technological institute
  • Grade average ≥ 75 in the previous year (for renewal)
  • Family income up to 150% of the poverty line (verified against National Insurance data)

How much?

Application steps

  1. Complete the online form at merom.org.il — by 30 April each year
  2. Attach documents: ID, study confirmation, transcript, proof of Ethiopian origin, family income statement
  3. Interview (for applicants passing the initial filter) — March–April
  4. Award notification: within 45 days
  5. Payment: transferred directly to the student's bank account

FAQ

Can it be combined with other scholarships? Yes — Merom can be combined with another merit scholarship, but not simultaneously with a full ISEF grant.

Does the Merom Scholarship require working in a specific field after graduation? No — there is no employment commitment.

What happens if my average falls below 75? The scholarship is suspended for one year. It can be renewed if the average rises again.
