Ethiopian-Israeli lawyers

780 Ethiopian-origin lawyers in the Israeli Bar Association in 2024 — 40% increase since 2019. Most practise family law, housing, social rights, employment.

Academic track

Hebrew University: strong in human rights and public law. Bar-Ilan: best commercial-firm employment outcomes. Reichman (IDC): business and tax law. LL.B costs: ₪50,000–₪80,000 total.

Scholarships

Marom (CHE): ₪8,000–₪20,000/year. Hebrew U social advancement: ₪10,000–₪14,000. JDC Leadership: ₪10,000–₪18,000.

Bar exam and internship

1-year clerkship (₪4,000–₪7,000/month). Bar exam (~70% first-time pass). ₪2,000 enrolment fee.

Internships at community organisations

Tebeka (tebeka.org.il), ACRI (human rights), Labour Court.

Salary ladder

Intern: ₪4,000–₪7,000. Year 1–2: ₪8,000–₪12,000. After 5 years: ₪15,000–₪30,000. Partner: ₪30,000+.

Social work as alternative

3-year BA. Work during third-year practicum. Starting ₪7,000–₪12,000, rising to ₪14,000–₪22,000.
