What is the Jewish Agency?
The Jewish Agency for Israel is a veteran global Jewish organization established even before the founding of the state. One of its central roles is to encourage, organize and manage the aliyah of Jews from around the world to Israel, and to accompany their initial absorption.
Its role in Ethiopian aliyah
The Agency played a central role in the historic aliyah operations from Ethiopia:
- Operation Moses (1984–1985)
- Operation Solomon (1991)
- Bringing community members through transit camps (Gondar, Addis Ababa) and operating absorption centers in Israel
What does the Agency do for immigrants?
- Organizing the aliyah process and flights
- Operating absorption centers — temporary housing with ulpan and guidance
- Initial assistance, together with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration (Absorption Basket)
