Fidel
An education nonprofit advancing the integration of Ethiopian-Israelis in schools — student mentoring, school-family mediation and teacher training.
What is Fidel?
Fidel is an education nonprofit working to advance the integration of Ethiopian-Israeli children and youth in the Israeli education system. The name "Fidel" is the name of the Ge'ez and Amharic alphabet — a symbol of learning and literacy.
What do they do?
- Education coordinators and mediators between schools, students and families
- Personal mentoring for students at risk of dropping out
- Helping parents understand the education system and their rights
- Training for teaching staff on cultural sensitivity and combating racism
Why mediation matters
Language and cultural gaps between parents and schools can lead to misunderstandings. An Amharic-speaking mediator helps parents take part in meetings, understand assessments and become genuine partners in their child's education.
