What is Timkat?

Timkat is a unique Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewish) holiday celebrating baptism and community renewal — combining prayer, music, dance, and togetherness.

When?

Celebrated in the Ethiopian month of Terri — typically January-February by the Gregorian calendar.

Ceremonies

Eve: Prayers with Kes (priests), traditional singing. Day: Community procession to water, symbolic baptism ceremony, communal feast. Dress: White garments with colourful embroidery.

Where in Israel?

Rishon LeZion, Netanya, Kiryat Malachi, Jerusalem (Ethiopian synagogue).
