Teaching Career for Ethiopian-Israeli Graduates — The Complete Guide

Why Teaching? Key Data

Israel faces a shortage of 8,000 teachers (2025-2026) — especially in mathematics, sciences, and Hebrew as a second language. In cities with high Ethiopian-Israeli populations (Netanya, Kiryat Malachi, Lod, Ramla), the shortage is double the national average.

Ethiopian-Israeli teachers serve as role models — research shows a 23% improvement in matriculation rates when students have teachers from their own community.

Salary: High school, 6 years' seniority — 11,500–14,000 ILS + supplements.

Certification Requirements

Standard path (4 years): Bachelor's in Education (B.Ed) from a recognised college.

For degree holders (2 years): If you already have a bachelor's in any field, you can get a teaching certificate in 2 years + 6-month internship. MOFET accelerated programme: 18 months.

Hebrew as a second language (high demand!): 2-semester certificate, state pays 800 ILS/month bonus. The community's bilingual background is a genuine advantage.
