The 2025 Sigd central prayer gathering in Jerusalem

The central prayer gathering of the 2025 Sigd holiday was held in Jerusalem, on the Sherover Promenade, as part of the traditional holiday's events for the Ethiopian-Israeli community, which marks the community's yearning for Jerusalem.

Per the event schedule, the state's blessing was delivered at 12:30, and the holiday fast ended at 14:00 — in line with the holiday's customs, where the fast is broken after the central prayers conclude.

Coverage also addressed the integration of Ethiopian-Israelis into Israel's security services — the police, the Israel Prison Service, and firefighting services — with Public Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir addressing the topic.

Sigd, marked 50 days after Yom Kippur, is one of the central holidays of Ethiopian Jewry, and since 2008 has been officially recognized in Israel, marked with public events around the country.
