About 2,000 Ethiopian-Israeli protesters rally at the Knesset, demanding Aliyah resume
About 2,000 protesters from Israel's Ethiopian-Israeli community gathered outside the Knesset in a demonstration organized by the "Koach LaAliyah" organization, demanding the government increase the budget allocated to the Aliyah process from Ethiopia and act to bring the family members of Ethiopian-Israelis to the country.
According to the report, the demand comes amid a worsening situation for family members who remain in Ethiopia, in the context of the country's ongoing civil war. Per the report, roughly 10,000 family members of Israelis of Ethiopian descent are currently waiting in Ethiopia for Aliyah.
The report also noted that no new Aliyah operation from Ethiopia has taken place since July 2023, meaning families' wait has continued without a stated advance by the authorities.
The protesters called on the government to act urgently to speed up the process and increase the resources allocated to it.
