Knesset committee: "Halting aliyah from Ethiopia is a disgrace to the State of Israel"

On November 17, 2025, The Jerusalem Post reported that the chair of the Knesset's Aliyah, Absorption and Diaspora Committee, MK Gilad Kariv, attacked the government over the halt in aliyah from Ethiopia.

The criticism

Kariv described the halt in aliyah as "a disgrace to the State of Israel," and pledged to keep working on the issue in order to resume it "as soon as possible."

The numbers in context

According to the report, most aliyah to Israel since the start of the war has come from three main countries: Russia, the United States and France. Aliyah from Ethiopia, by contrast, has remained stalled, with no parallel progress.
