In 2025 Israel approved the arrival of 2,000+ additional Falashmura. They join ~165,000 Ethiopian-origin Jews already in the country.
What a New Immigrant Receives
Direct payments (year 1): Absorption grant 12,000-21,000 ILS (by age), equipment grant up to 8,000 ILS, rental assistance up to 4,400 ILS/month × 36 months.
Services: Free Hebrew (Ulpan) + stipend, health insurance from day 1, free schooling for children, childcare subsidy for under-3s.
Falashmura Specifics
Falashmura undergo a special Judaism verification process before receiving an aliyah certificate — taking 6-18 months, during which they stay in an absorption centre with full services.
First Steps After Landing
- Day 1: Obtain aliyah certificate — don't leave the airport without it
- Week 1: Register with health fund + open bank account
- Month 1: Apply for rental assistance at Ministry of Aliyah
- Month 2: Enroll in Ulpan + absorption centre
