CV writing guide for Ethiopian-Israelis — what works in 2026

The employment gap — why it matters

According to the Adva Center 2026 report, only 18% of Ethiopian-Israeli degree-holders work in their field of study, versus 45% in the general population. Barriers include CV writing difficulty, language gaps, lack of professional networks, and discrimination at the screening stage.

ATS screening explained

Most large employers — banks, retail chains, tech companies, government — use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to filter CVs automatically. If your keywords don't match the job posting, a human never sees your application. Fix: mirror the job description's exact terminology in your CV.

Translating Ethiopian and military background

Military logistics → "Managed inventory and supplier chain." Squad commander → "Led a team of 8 under operational pressure." Community coordinator → "Coordinated events for 200+ participants, managed 15 volunteers."

Format rules

1–2 pages. Font: Arial or Calibri (avoid fonts that break ATS on PDF). Dates in MM/YY format. Order: experience → education → skills. Save as PDF.

LinkedIn is mandatory in 2026

71% of Israeli recruiters check LinkedIn before an interview (LinkedIn Israel 2025). Use both Hebrew and English. Professional headshot. Headline: role + intent, not "looking for work."
