Aliyah and Integration Ministry's 2026 budget — again with no dedicated funding for aliyah from Ethiopia
On January 30, 2026, Davar1 reported that the 2026 Aliyah and Integration Ministry budget proposal does not include, for the third consecutive year, dedicated funding to continue the aliyah of those waiting in Ethiopia.
The situation on the ground
Those waiting to immigrate are located in Gondar and Addis Ababa. Of them, 1,226 people have already been approved to immigrate — but without dedicated funding in the 2026 budget, there is no budgetary framework to carry out the flights and the process.
The Kanfo Committee's conclusions
The conclusions of the Kanfo Committee, formulated in June 2024 and addressing the issue of Ethiopian Jewish aliyah, have still not been brought before the government for discussion and decision — roughly a year and a half after their publication.
Community response
The Headquarters for the Struggle to Bring Ethiopian Jews to Israel expressed "deep anger and pain" over the continued absence of dedicated funding, against the backdrop of past promises and conclusions.
