Detailed rights and support

Many first-generation immigrants to Israel have reached retirement age and face language and bureaucratic barriers. The National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) provides several key entitlements — it is important to know that each one requires an active application. Old-Age Allowance (קצבת זקנה): Paid to all who have reached retirement age (67 for men, 62–67 for women depending on birth year) and do not earn above the ceiling. The allowance is paid automatically only after submitting a claim. Amount: approx. ₪1,800–2,400/month (2026). Can be increased with low additional income. Long-Term Care Insurance (ביטוח סיעודי): Designed for people who are unable to function independently — such as mobility difficulties or dementia. The benefit includes up to 16 hours per week of home assistance. An application and functional assessment are required. Day Centres: Day centres for the elderly offer social activities, meals, and physiotherapy. Registration is through the municipality or local council. Subsidised cost for low-income individuals. Transport Allowance for ages 75+: People aged 75 and above are entitled to free rides on all public transport nationwide (including trains) upon presentation of their ID card.
